The Great Work

A guide to self and social transformation for wizards, witches and other magical folk.

Robyn Wood

The basic premise of this book is that western culture has been built on a misconception of the self, and the world we live in. The central theme presented by Robyn Wood is that today's western culture encourages a limited and deficient perception of self that leads to unhappiness and a sense of isolation. Fulfillment can be realized however by  broadening the horizon of self perception to embrace the seats of intuition, visioning, and inspiration,  amongst others. The experiences so encouraged are ways of activating links with the consciousness of the Greater Organism, of which all life is a part. These experiences are discussed in the context of gaining knowledge of one's own True Work, the pursuit of which nourishes the soul, and brings happiness and satisfaction. The True Work links one with the Great Work, the collective movement of all life to conscious co-awakening, and collective co-creation of the conditions required by all life to live and sustain itself in harmony with nature.  The theme of the sacred marriage of archetypal male and female principals runs through out the text, as a means for understanding and cooperating with the processes of personal and collective becoming. Re-sanctification of sexuality is a result of embracing this as a fundamental viewpoint. Suggestions for personal practice, including visualizations, journal exercises and meditations, accompany each chapter, making this book an invaluable companion for the quest.
